Artist, writer, and travel presenter Sorrel Wilby has committed to spending 100 consecutive days in her studio producing 100 portraits, inspired by her extensive travels across the globe.

Sorrel is an award winning adventurer, author, photographer, television presenter and artist. She has trekked 3,000km alone across Tibet, climbed the major peaks and ranges on the African continent and walked 6,500km through the Himalayas, from the Indus to the Brahmaputra.

She has written books about her many expeditions but is perhaps best known for her role on Channel Nine’s flagship travel program, Getaway, Australian Geographic’s Best of Australia documentaries and the ABC series, Painting Australia.

Sorrel has also made a name for herself as an acclaimed photographer and published illustrator. Her artistic talent extends to watercolour, pen and ink and graphite, however her favourite medium is pastel.

In 2014, Sorrel will revisit and reflect upon the many journeys she has made in her life. Rather than retracing her actual steps, she has pledged to spend 100 consecutive days in her studio producing 100 portraits: honouring the many remarkable people she has met on ‘the road less travelled’.

Her sketches and paintings – and the process of creating them – will be catalogued daily online, accompanied by short essays on how each person and/or their experience or world view has affected and shaped Sorrel’s own life.
